WOGI Health Ride Labs
WOGI Health Ride Labs is a 30-month Erasmus+ Sport Cooperation Partnership that combines grassroots urban cycling, sustainable nutrition education and local food systems within an innovative Urban Living Lab model. The project will deliver 24 Urban Health Ride Labs across four European municipalities, engaging more than 5,000 citizens, including at least 30% participants with fewer opportunities. Through WOGI HealthPlate workshops, local producer involvement, behavioural measurement and ESG-based event practices, the project creates a practical and transferable European model linking sport, health, inclusion and sustainability.

Project Overview
WOGI Health Ride Labs is a 30-month European initiative transforming grassroots cycling into a platform for healthier, more inclusive and sustainable urban communities. Through Urban Living Labs, the project connects physical activity, sustainable nutrition, local food systems and municipal cooperation. Across four European cities, 24 Urban Health Ride Labs will engage more than 5,000 citizens, including at least 30% participants with fewer opportunities. The project combines inclusive cycling, WOGI HealthPlate education, local sustainable food experiences and evidence-based behavioural monitoring to create a scalable European model for integrated sport, health and sustainability action.
Challenge
Europe faces interconnected challenges of physical inactivity, obesity, low health literacy and social exclusion. Although citizens often understand the benefits of exercise and healthy eating, this knowledge does not consistently translate into long-term behavioural change. At the same time, municipal sport, public health, sustainability and local food policies are frequently implemented in separate administrative silos. Vulnerable groups face additional barriers to grassroots sport, while sustainable local food producers remain underused as educational partners. Grassroots organisations also lack practical ESG tools adapted to small community sport events.
Our Solution
WOGI Health Ride Labs creates an integrated Urban Living Lab model in which cycling becomes a behavioural gateway to healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. Each Lab combines accessible cycling routes, interactive WOGI HealthPlate nutrition education, local sustainable food experiences and ESG monitoring. A Quadruple Helix approach connects civil society, academia, municipalities and industry expertise, while scientific pre- and post-assessments measure changes in health literacy, behavioural intentions and sustainability awareness. The resulting methodology is designed for replication by municipalities and grassroots sport organisations throughout Europe.
